Mike McKinlay: Omoshiroi Hito

Mike's Japanese Pronunciation Chart

The 411 on Japanese Pronunciation

Japanese has 5 basic sounds... a / i / u / e / o

a - sounds like you are sounding out the letter a.

i - sounds like your are pronouncing the letter "e."

u - sounds like you are saying "oooh la la..."

e - sounds like you are pronouncing the letter "a."

o - sounds like you are pronouncing the letter "o."

After this the sounds kind of repeat but with a different letter in front of them. I think Japanese is very easy to pronounce cause it basically always follows these five sounds. The key is that when you read romaji, do not read it like reading an English sentence.
