My Other Webpage
Hi! Thank you once again for visiting omoshiroieigo.com! If you are interested in learning casual English or Japanese sentences please make sure to bookmark this page in your favorites and to visit often as new updates will be available!
My name is Mike and I now live in Calgary, Canada. I first came to Japan after finishing my first year of university in 1996. I had actually lived in Hong Kong for 3 months prior to that on a working holiday and on the way back to Canada was able to stop in Japan for a week. I stayed with a friend's family and even though I couldn't speak a word of Japanese I had a blast!
After finishing University in 2001, I was accepted to be a part of the JET Programme as an Assistant Language Teacher. For one year, I taught at a couple of Junior High Schools and some elementary schools in Toyama-shi, Toyama-ken. Although I had some trouble adjusting to my new job and surroundings I really had a great time and learned a lot about myself and Japan.
The following year I returned to Japan on a 2 month internship in Numazu, Shizuoka. This time I was teaching mainly to elementary school students. In 2004, I returned to Japan on a working holiday visa and taught in Nagoya and Gifu-ken, in various Eikaiwas(private English schools).
My Japanese isn't very good but just because I am not good at speaking Japanese doesn't mean I can't have fun trying! In fact, I think that by having fun I will actually learn more and this is one more reason why I created this site. As my best friend likes to say, "If you can't be good..... be good at it!!!" mmm that sort of expression doesn't really fit here but it's my website and I can do whatever I want! haha!
I haven't been to Japan since the spring of 2004 but this March I will go there for about a 2 week vacation. I am quite excited and I will be using my own site to brush up on all the important sentences! haha!!!
Learning Japanese has always been a great challenge for me. When most people study Japanese, they are usually taught the politest form of the language and the same can be said of Japanese students studying English. In creating this site, I am hoping to make a database of interesting and dare I say, common sentences to help both Japanese and foreigners learn 'everyday' English or Japanese. This may not be the most educational site you have ever visited but at least you can have some fun by practicing these sentences with your conversation partner and maybe even a stranger!
Remember to keep visiting this site for updates and information regarding Japan! If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me at: mmckinlay at hotmail dot com!!! bye bee!!! Mike
